Return of the Cougars
2003 was my very first attempt at making a movie. It was
pretty damned cool and it was on DVD. Originally it started by chance when I
bought a video camera on a whim at a best buy while on a summer
trip with some of my friends in Reno in August.
Ok, I thought, maybe I
might use this thing a few times and then back on the shelf it
would go.
And I was pretty much
right about that one.
Until one day in
September 2003 I handed the camera to my cross country coach
during a really tough practice. I told him to take a few
shots of us running. So (Steve Scott) runs around like a mad
man, taking strange angled shots that I didn't pay attention to at
the time. When I finally look at the footage, and slow
everything down to 50%, my jaw dropped and I knew what I wanted to
do with my life if I had the chance.
The joy of watching
something coming to life and being able to edit every part 100%
the way you want just keeps me hooked. But it wasn't just
the video I was looking at, it was a combination of video AND
music. Together, the video and music hitting timed marks and
changes in the action and movement, really make this kind of art
what it is meant to be.
So every since I found
the passion of movie making, I first made Return of the Cougars
2003. It was a movie based on my senior year of cross
country at Cal State San Marcos, my undergrad university.
The film has 8 sections of video plus one hidden sequence at the
very end of the disc. And it was a hit, a lot of people
liked it, and it feels really good when people actually like what
you do. Shit, not only did the people from the team like it,
but people who hated to run liked to watch my video about people
running!! HAHA!
Now this leads me to the
second movie...
